Welcome to Ironclad!

About Ironclad

In 1997, Ed Jaeger, Ironclad’s founder was asked to help on a home-build. There were plumbers, masonry workers, demo-guys, electricians and construction workers everywhere. He noticed that each person had very expensive task-specific tools that they needed in order to get the job done, but also realized that none of these workers were wearing gloves. Being curious, Ed asked the guys around the jobsite why they weren’t wearing gloves and all of their answers were similar.

“I can’t use the gloves that are available because they’re too bulky. Sure they protect my hands, but they are hot, I can’t feel my tools, they only come in one size and they basically get in the way of me doing my job.”
This blew Jaeger away. A hard working guy, Jaeger who grew up riding motorcycles, and knew the industry, had task-specific gloves for dirt bikes, or road bikes and he learned to use these gloves when he worked. The gloves, constructed with materials like Kevlar™ and ballistic nylon, had great fit and became an extension of your hand. While at the jobsite, Jaeger, realized that there was a huge disconnect between the worker and their most important tool – their hands. They needed a glove that protected their hands and helped them get the job done.

It was at this moment that Ironclad was born. His concept was to build a glove that offered protection and performance, but sacrificed neither. He also wanted to create a brand that real workers could be proud to wear; a brand that would stick with them through thick and thin; and a brand that was built solely for them. These people are the true heroes of real-life. Everything that we use in our daily life, many of which we take for granted, are built by unrecognized hard-working men and women – the everyday heroes.

Ironclad pioneered this new territory – developing task-specific gloves that helped each worker get the job done more safely, efficiently and effectively. But just developing task-specific gloves wasn’t enough. Ironclad needed to bring new technologies, materials and innovations to these harsh working environments. As a result, Ironclad has developed and been granted 30 patents globally, and we own over 70 trademarks worldwide. These exclusive properties are a part of our expanding advanced glove technology which can be seen in virtually every glove Ironclad sells. Ironclad is about constant innovation in order to celebrate the real Everyday Heroes of the world.

Ironclad Features

COMMAND™ TOUCHSCREEN TECHNOLOGY

With touchscreen technology rapidly entering the work world, Ironclad realized there was a significant gap in work glove technology. If workers must remove their gloves to enter data or capture images on phones, tablets or data entry devices, then productivity will be lost and hand safety will be significantly compromised. After 18 months of development, Ironclad introduced the Command Series™ line of work gloves. This is the first glove line to utilize embedded nanoparticle technology into the glove palm, allowing users to take full advantage of touchscreen input devices without having to remove their gloves. Workers no longer have to sacrifice safety and efficiency for the gains in productivity, communication and convenience that touchscreen devices bring to the working environment. Command technology incorporates touchscreen into the very fibers of our gloves.

COLOUR CODED CUT RESISTANCE

Colour-coded cut resistance, exclusively from Ironclad - the difference between compliance and catastrophe

When it comes to hand safety, compliance is the fine art of making sure that all workers are wearing protective gloves – and that they are wearing the right type of gloves for the hazards they encounter.

For example, Sandra works in the warehouse, so she needs cut level A1 touchscreen gloves. Roger handles sheet metal, so he requires cut level A4 gloves. Dwayne pulls hot metal parts off an assembly line, performs a brief grinding operation, and enters QC data on a tablet, so he needs heat resistant, touchscreen capable, cut level A5 gloves. Finally, there’s Julia. Julia’s job is to make sure that Sandra, Roger and Dwayne are all wearing gloves with the appropriate cut resistant level for the hazards they face on a daily basis. Therefore Julia needs a quick and efficient method of ensuring hand safety compliance across the entire workplace - and that’s why we invented colour-coded cut resistance.

So how did they do that? They started by adding a reinforcement to the saddle of our gloves, where the highest wear takes place. This reinforcement will double or triple the lifespan of the glove, reducing the overall cost of a hand safety program. Then, we developed a system of colour coding that reinforcement, so safety professionals like Julia can rapidly scan the entire job site and easily evaluate if each worker is appropriately protected. Not only that, but Sandra, Roger and Dwayne can also perform the same quick check at the start of each shift.

HYBRID SAFETY CUFF

Ironclad engineered its one of a kind Hybrid Cuff with safety, security and convenience in mind. The unique design of the Hybrid Cuff combines the secure fit of a Velcro wrist strap with the quick release benefits provided by a slip fit cuff. Now you actually can have both features in the same glove.

Here’s how it works: The flexible Velcro wrist strap locks the glove into place on your hand. This provides a secure grip on your tools, equipment and materials.A secure grip is an absolute necessity for a safe and efficient workplace. At Ironclad, we understand the importance of grip – it is central to all that we do!And a Velcro wrist strap provides that security. However, there are some situations where a slip fit or gauntlet cuff is more appropriate. For example, when you need to remove your gloves quickly or in an emergency. Or, in rare cases, if a glove gets caught in a piece of machinery, the glove can pull off of your hand instantly. Therefore, we incorporated a method for the cuff to expand quickly and easily, even while the Velcro cuff is securely closed on your wrist.

With the unique ‘expansion chamber’ design of the Hybrid Cuff, the glove can be securely strapped to your wrist yet it can still be removed in an instant. Go ahead, try it - you’ll see just how secure your Ironclad glove fits on your hand, and how easily and quickly it can be removed. Another no-compromise innovation, exclusively from Ironclad Performance Wear.
